NEW Allergy Service at Vincent Pallotti Hospital
We are very excited to share that there will be a NEW allergy service starting at Vincent Pallotti Hospital by Dr Thulja Trikamjee. We know that allergies, whether it dietary related or not, can often be a daunting experience for both parents and kiddies with alot of conflicting advice and recommendations out there. It is great news that Dr Trikamjee will be sharing her expert allergy knowledge and vast experience.
About Dr Trikamjee:
Dr Trikamjee is a specialist Paediatrician, with a sub-specialty Certificate in Paediatric Allergy and a Diploma in Allergy. She is currently a consultant at the University of Cape Town Lung Institute, an active member of the Allergy Society of South Africa (ALLSA), a member of the American Academy of Asthma, Allergy and Immunology (AAAI) and the only African elected board member of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI). Her fellowship in Allergology was attained through the Discovery Foundation, who awarded her the Sub-specialist Award in 2015, and is also the recipient of the MSD ALLSA Research Award 2016 for her ongoing work on Dust Allergy.
Dr Trikamjee has presented her work both internationally and at local congresses, has appeared on health related talk shows, and has been an examiner to University of Cape Town medical students, as well as the Diploma in Allergy exam of South Africa. She also recently completed a course in Food Allergy at the University of Manchester in England.
She was only the second person in Africa to have completed the Certificate in Allergology through the College of Medicine of South Africa, and is passionate about taking the Allergy Service to all parts of the country. Living her life on the foundation that “Service to humanity is the best work of life,” she is currently working with the health sector in Kwazulu-Natal to deliver a world-class sub-specialist service in her hometown of Durban.
She also practices as a general paediatrician and has vast experience with neonatology, as well as critical care in children. After qualifying with an Mbchb through the Nelson Mandela School of Medicine, she pursued a career in Paediatrics. “It was during my community service in a village of Kwazulu Natal, where Nelson Mandela had cast his vote in South Africa’s first democratic election, that I realized my passion to make a difference in the lives of underprivileged communities and vulnerable children.”
Dr Trikamjee will be starting an Allergy Service to patients at Vincent Palloti Hospital every Monday afternoon.
